Frella is now in Sri Lanka

FRELLA’s Coming Home: An Evening That Redefined Wellness in Sri Lanka

The moment I walked into the Shangri-La Ballroom in Colombo, I felt it. Something local. Something familiar. Something ours.

It wasn’t just the venue, the lights, or the crowd. It was the Kapruka wishing tree at the entrance, the traditional dancers welcoming us in, and an entire display of products made from ingredients we know so well, but presented in a way we have never quite experienced before. Elevated. Intentional. World-class.

This was FRELLA’s Coming Home. And it was nothing short of magnificent.

The evening opened with a keynote from Senior Professor Raj Somadeva, who took us back over 2,500 years into Sri Lanka’s trading history. A reminder that our spices, our herbs, our ingredients were not just locally loved but were luxury goods sought after by kingdoms and civilisations across the ancient world, including the Egyptians and Romans. Sri Lanka didn’t just participate in global trade. We were at the very heart of it. And somewhere along the way, we forgot to remind ourselves of that.

That conversation continued with insights from Sudath Horadagoda, Founder and CEO of FRELLA International, who spoke about the brand’s global journey and wellness market trends, and from Rolf Blaser, CEO of Baurs, about how meaningful partnerships between multinationals and local brands can open doors that change industries. And then there were the voices from Parliament. Dr. Harsha De Silva and Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe both spoke about something that genuinely hit different. About how Sri Lanka is so much more than what we are known for today. About how our SMEs are quietly making waves, channelling that same ancient spirit of innovation and trade into modern, global businesses. And about how we need a new wave of entrepreneurs who dare to think bigger and take what is ours to the world.

FRELLA is exactly that kind of brand.

What started as a wellness brand rooted in Ayurvedic tradition has been making waves across luxury resorts and hospitality spaces globally for years. If you have stayed at a luxury resort in the Maldives or Dubai, there is a chance you have already experienced FRELLA without even knowing it. And closer to home, Shangri-La Colombo, one of the first hospitality partners to believe in FRELLA, has been offering their guests a more therapeutic experience through CHI Spa using FRELLA products for years. I got to experience a quick session myself that evening, and honestly, it was one of the most relaxing moments of the night. If you are in hospitality and want to elevate your guest experience, now you know who to talk to.

The highlight of the evening was the official distribution partnership signing between FRELLA and Baurs, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic and trusted names. This isn’t just a business deal. It’s a statement. It means that authentic, natural wellness made from our own soil and heritage is now coming closer to all of us, island-wide.

This isn’t just about a brand launching. It’s about redefining what wellness looks like in Sri Lanka. Clean ingredients, ancient wisdom, and elevated experiences. This is what wellness should have always looked like for us.

FRELLA showed us what Sri Lanka can do. Not just in the ways we have always been known for, but in so many other ways. And if this is just the beginning, I genuinely cannot wait to see what comes next.

FRELLA is home. And it’s time you experienced it for yourself.
